Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
Hi all –
Did you know that only 1.8% of VC-backed startups are led by Latinx founders? That makes Drift part of that small percent.
What’s more, out of all the Hispanic-owned businesses in the US today, only 3% generate more than $1 million in revenue per year.
All of this is in spite of the fact that Latinos accounted for 82% of the growth in the US labor force from 2010 and 2017.
Think about that.
Latinos are critical to the foundation of the new American economy. But we’re rarely recognized as such.
I worked in tech for 10 years – in New York City no less – before I met another person who looked like me, who shared my background. That person was my co-founder and Drift’s CTO, Elias Torres.
This has to change.
Elias and I are personally driven to serve as role models for future generations of Latinx tech workers. We have to do more.
Hispanic Heritage Month may have ended on Thursday, but we need to do more every month and every day to support this community – whether that’s serving as a role model personally, making a concerted effort to hire people of diverse backgrounds, or by providing resources and training opportunities to this community.
