Staying true to ourselves
Hi all –
A few weeks ago, I was asked, “what do you hope Drift continues to do as it scales?”
Ultimately, I hope we always stay true to ourselves, our story, and our mission. That means we can’t forget our voice. It’s something we need to consider with everything we write, build, and create.
We can’t lose our way and do things that everyone else does, sound like everyone else, or look like everything else.
Some things have to change as we get bigger, but not our brand, not our voice and not our ethos. If we lose those things, we won’t stand out or stand for anything in the long term.
And here are a few ways we do that:
- We can’t ship things that aren’t excellent.
- If that means we do fewer, better things, then so be it.
- We need to show our work. This creates humility because one can presume that their ideas are the best ideas. By not showing our work, we close ourselves to valuable feedback and ultimately stop growing.
And most importantly, we need to all hold each other accountable to be great. That is how we become inevitable.
How are you holding your own team to higher standards?
