Set up dashboards in Google Analytics

1. Open Google Analytics and navigate to Customization > Dashboards, then click on Create to create a new dashboard.

To edit an existing dashboard, choose its name from the list.

2. Select Blank Canvas for a template with no widgets or Starter Dashboard to access a default set of starter widgets. Give your dashboard a name that identifies the dashboard’s purpose, like Sales funnel this month.

The Starter dashboard comes with widgets like New Users, Users, Sessions, Sessions by Browser, Bounce Rate, Av. Session Duration and Pages/Sessions, Revenue, and Goal Completions. Alternatively, click Import from Gallery at the bottom of the popup to import a dashboard configuration from the Solutions Gallery.

3. Click on +Add Widget under the dashboard title to add widgets to your new dashboard.

Select a widget from the standard Metric, Timeline, Geomap, Table, Pie and Bar widgets or the real-time Counter, Geomap, Table and Timeline widgets. For example, add the Metric widget and click on New Sessions under Show the following metric to track new sessions.

4. To see pageviews by source, click Pie and change the widget title to Referral Source, select Pageviews from the create pie chart showing drop-down and Source/Medium from the grouped by drop-down.

Click Save to view it on the new dashboard.

5. Click on Customize Dashboard in the top menu and choose a layout to change your widgets’ arrangement on the page.

6. Click on the pencil icon on a widget to change the data it displays, the title, or the page or report that it links to.

To link a widget to a URL or report, paste a URL or start typing a report name in the Link to Report or URL field and GA will autocomplete existing report names. Choose the one you need and click Save.

7. Click on +Add Segment to compare metrics generated by different sessions or user groupings.

Edit an existing segment by clicking on its name at the top of your dashboard.
