Furlough

In the U.S., a furlough is a temporary, involuntary and unpaid leave of absence for an employee. Employers typically issue furloughs to employees as a result of financial hardship (either in their organization or in the economy as a whole) or in the event of a government shutdown (for public-sector employees).
