Situational Leadership

Situational leadership is a management approach that acknowledges that different management styles are more effective in some situations, depending on the task at hand and the needs of an individual employee. Leaders need to understand what the response options are in order to develop situational awareness for tailoring their approach to the circumstance. Gartner’s situational leadership model identifies five general patterns of behaviors: Commander, Catalyst, Coach, Collaborator and Consultant.
